#Save Sabarimala - May sense prevail!

What is so empowering about women entering Sabarimala, defying an age old tradition by mocking and cheating a community of believers that includes both men and women?

By creating mass anger and hurt, its hard to believe that the recent incidents at Sabarimala could have brought any possible sense of achievement or victory to those involved in it. What is so great about it? Winning in ego does not really lead one to a happy spot. It can only create more misery within.

These activities of ignorance and activism cannot make Lord Ayyapa’s abode impure and nor does The Lord punish. The Divine is too big for that. But doubtful that one can escape the karma of stabbing the hearts and minds of lacks of helpless devotees with cunningness and misuse of power. As one sows, so shall one reap.

Of all the species in the world, human beings are the most special as the potential to blossom in entirety resides only within us. There are many schools of thoughts available for one to evolve in life but the essence remains the same and its very simple. At one level we are all connected and at another each of us is unique. The connectedness can nurture a beautiful feeling of sensitivity that can help to recognize and respect the faith and belief system of fellow beings with an intention of harmonious co existence. Yet its sad to witness the mankind and its monkey mind all over the place craving for equality and empowerment in mundane things.

When a family member wears the sacred mala, swearing allegiance to Lord Ayyapa, it elevates not just the individual but the entire family into a realm of sanctity. As a female family member, it never disturbed me or even occurred to me as injustice to not accompany the male members on the journey to Sabarimala, rather it brought a sense of responsibility and blessing to serve and support in observing vratham. Those memories of waking up early and taking bath, heading to temple as the first thing in the morning, cooking with reverence, then ending the day with namajapams, watching ketunirakal, smell of the ghee, cracking of coconuts and wishing a full filling darshan for all the Swamy Ayyapanmar as the Van drives away, stirs up waves of divinity and freshness within. The mind does not seek empowerment when it is filled with devotion. The serenity in this whole exercise is so powerful that nothing lacks in that space.

One can only see as much as the eyes shows. But one's experience has the ability to surpass the limited intelligence. Some traditions needs to be understood at a deeper level beyond the logical mind. Empowerment is not competing and coming to par with the opposite gender in mere actions. It is a state of mind. Devotion is empowering, patience is empowering, acknowledging and accommodating is empowering.
It is futile to hope for reformation by ignoring the pulse of the society and by destroying traditions and ecosystem that helps in uplifting the spirit of Thathwamasi.

May soon sense prevail!
